Born 1927. Tobiasse was brought to Paris from Israel as a child and completed his first drawing before World War 11. He and his family barely survived the Nazis. In the post-war period he developed skills as a successful commercial artist. He ultimately abandoned this area and devoted himself to painting. Since 1961 Tobiasse has become increasingly recognized and popular in New York, Paris, Caracas, Tel Aviv and Tokyo. His paintings transcend history, blending images into one moment-warping time into the present tense; his past, his dreams, mythology, Judaic legends and, biblical stories all inter-twine to become understandable in today’s terms.
